In a world of anodyne pop blandness, a touch of madness can go a long way – just ask Nelly Furtado.

She's like a bird all right, of the petite, smouldering variety, and with millions of album sales to boot.

Her gibberish lyrics may only be bettered by Colombian honey Shakira, but Colombia didn't make it to the World Cup, so we're stuck with gorgeous, marble-eyed Nelly instead.

Nelly has a top footie pedigree though; she only went and sung 'Foca', the official anthem for Euro 2004.

Not that it helped Portugal's collection of slick-backed posers as they lost to dull-as-dishwater Greece in the final. And hey, didn't we all feel bad about that?
