Rooney's return
Wayne Rooney could make a dramatic return to action in England's second Group B game of the World Cup against Trinidad & Tobago on Thursday.
The 20-year-old has not played for more than six weeks after breaking a metatarsal playing for Manchester United in a Premiership defeat at Chelsea, but returned to training last Thursday.
England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is optimistic Rooney will be ready to play some part in Nurnberg on Thursday, if he is required against a Soca Warriors side that drew 0-0 with Sweden on Saturday.
Asked whether Rooney would appear in the game, Eriksson said: "I'm very optimistic, always. I'm born like that.
"We have to decide that day by day, to be honest."
England fans chanted for Rooney during England's 1-0 victory against Paraguay at the weekend but Eriksson added: "It can't have an effect on me. I have my coaches, my fitness coach and my physios and we have decide together: 'OK it's time.'"
